Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will likely miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury, TribLive.com reported Monday.

Maatta, 20, has not played since re-injuring his surgically repaired shoulder against the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 6. Maatta's doctors are deciding whether or not he should have a second surgery; he had a torn labrum repaired last May.

"Olli is going through further tests. Nothing is definitive yet," coach Mike Johnston said Tuesday.

Maatta missed time earlier this season to have a cancerous tumor removed from his thyroid. He was diagnosed with the mumps on Dec. 19.

In 20 games this season, Maatta had one goal and eight assists with a plus-one rating. As a rookie in 2013-14, he had nine goals and 29 points in 78 games.
