Jack Campbell makes 32 saves as the Stars down the Marlies 3-1

TORONTO - Jack Campbell turned away 32-of-33 shots as the Texas Stars downed the host Toronto Marlies 3-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Derek Hulak opened the scoring for the Stars (11-8-8) at 17:17 of the first period to make it 1-0.

Derek Meech doubled his club's lead with a power-play goal at 12:45 of the second and Brendan Ranford made it 3-0 Texas less than two minutes into the third.

Matt Frattin replied for the Marlies (10-15-3) at 7:43.

Toronto's Christopher Gibson made 27 saves in defeat.

Forward Carter Ashton recorded one shot on goal in his Marlies debut. The Maple Leafs loaned him to the AHL club on a conditioning assignment on Friday after he was done serving a 20-game suspension for a violation of the NHL/NHLPA drug policy.

The Stars went 1 for 4 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
