The New York Rangers and goaltender Cam Talbot agreed to a contract extension, the team announced Friday. No terms were released, but the New York Post reported that it's a one-year, $1.45 million extension through the 2015-16 season.

Talbot, 27, is in the final season of his current contract. He could have been an unrestricted free agent after the season.

In seven games this season Talbot is 2-3-1 record with a 2.34 goals-against average, .921 save percentage and two shutouts.

Talbot signed with the Rangers in 2010 after three seasons at Alabama-Huntsville and made his NHL debut last season. He served as Henrik Lundqvist's backup and had a 12-6-1 record, a 1.64 GAA, a .941 save percentage and three shutouts.
