Devils' Jagr scores 709th goal, moves past Gartner

NEWARK, N.J. --- New Jersey Devils right wing Jaromir Jagr moved into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL's all-time goals list when he scored his 709th in the first period against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

Jagr jammed a rebound past Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek at 2:18 of the first period to move in front of Mike Gartner. He trails Phil Esposito (717 goals) for fifth on the all-time list.

With 1,770 points, Jagr trails Marcel Dionne (1,771 points) for fifth all-time. Jagr, 42, who is in his 21st NHL season, second with the Devils, is eighth all-time with 1,061 assists, two behind Steve Yzerman (1,063 assists), after he got an assist on Peter Harrold's goal later in the first period Friday.

Jagr needs one power-play goal to move into sole possession of 15th place. He is currently tied with Yzerman with 202 power-play goals. Wayne Gretzky is 14th with 204 power-play goals.
