Rogers Hometown Hockey celebrates Fort McMurray

Prior to the telecast Sunday of the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers, NHL Network will televise the "Rogers Hometown Hockey" broadcast at 6:30 p.m. ET on CITY and the NHL Network in the United States. This week's location is Fort McMurray, Alberta, to celebrate the city's iconic hockey story.

Among the features airing on the pregame show:

* Defenseman Chris Phillips grew up in Fort McMurray, played for the Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and has played his entire NHL career with the Ottawa Senators, who selected him with the first pick in the 1996 NHL Draft. He has achieved many things throughout his life, but he will always remember where he came from and how Fort McMurray helped shape the player he is today.

* Mark Hartigan was a member of Stanley Cup winning teams with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007 and the Detroit Red Wings in 2008. This story is Mark's recollection of the two Stanley Cup runs (including overcoming his mother's death during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs) and his experience bringing the Cup to Fort McMurray for the first time ever.

* From the jersey Wayne Gretzky wore during his record-breaking 1981-82 season (worth more than $300,000), to Gretzky's 1986 Mercedes convertible (license plate: WAS 99S), Shawn Chaulk, the Wayne Gretzky of Wayne Gretzky collectors, talks about how a Newfoundlander who came to Fort McMurray decades ago fell in love with the Edmonton Oilers and built the world's largest collection of game-worn Gretzky memorabilia.

* Beginning in 1982, there has been a game in town that isn't a part of a league; where there's a rotating roster and stats don't matter. It's Suncor vs. Syncrude, and they play once a year for a bigger purpose: to help those in need, and to be a part of Fort McMurray hockey history.
