Ducks' Perry practices, says he's weak after mumps

Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry returned to practice Thursday, one day after the Ducks said he and defenseman Francois Beauchemin were diagnosed with mumps.

"I had the swollen jaw and the swelling in my face that led to headaches," Perry said, according to the Ducks website. "I had the body aches and fever too. Those things weren't fun."

Perry, who said his temperature got as high as 102 degrees, has missed Anaheim's past four games. He spent three days and two nights in the hospital.

"I had no energy to do anything," he said. "My day consisted of the doctor coming in at 7 o'clock in the morning, looking at me and then taking off, me going back to sleep, and then the doctor coming back in to draw blood."

The Ducks have games at the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday and at home against the Florida Panthers on Sunday. Perry didn't say he won't be able to play, but admitted he'll need to regain his strength before he can return.

"It's going to take some time," he said. "The body is a little weak. Hopefully I can do all the right steps to get ready. It's mostly the lungs. Being weak is the most noticeable thing."

Perry was leading the NHL in goals with 11 before he became ill. The Ducks are 1-0-3 without him, including a 6-5 shootout victory against the Kings on Wednesday.

"It was nice to see [Perry] in the room because the guys miss him," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "You're glad to see that he's healthy because you know he went through a little bit of a scare there. Seeing him on the ice, you know he's on the road to recovery. He's the kind of guy who shouldn't take too long to recover."

The Ducks had no update on the status of Beauchemin, who has missed the past two games.
