Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa reached 1,000 NHL points with a third-period goal against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

Hossa scored with 6:10 remaining in regulation to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 lead. Chicago won 5-4 in a shootout.

Hossa got point 999 with an assist on a goal by Jonathan Toews 11:25 into the first period that tied the game 1-1.

Hossa, 35 and in his 17th NHL season, has 466 goals and 534 assists in 1,100 games. He is the 80th NHL player to reach 1,000 points.

Ottawa selected Hossa with the 12th pick in the 1997 NHL Draft. He broke into the NHL with the Senators in 1998 and played parts of seven seasons with them, scoring 390 points (188 goals) in 467 regular-season games.

"It's such a privilege to be one of these 80 great players to do this milestone, and it doesn't get better than this doing it where I started," Hossa said. "It means lots to me. A big thanks goes to all the players tonight who helped me to achieve that and also all the players through my career."
