NEW YORK, N.Y. - New York Rangers defenceman John Moore was given a five-game suspension by the National Hockey League on Wednesday for hitting Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula in the head during a game this week.

Moore, a repeat offender after being suspended for two playoff games last spring, will forfeit US$51,859.75 in salary.

The 23-year-old blue-liner was given a match penalty after the incident in Monday night's game.

Moore will be eligible to return when the Rangers face the Penguins on Nov. 11.
