QUICK, CARTER LEAD SURGING KINGS TO VICTORY

Jonathan Quick stopped all 29 shots he faced to claim the all-time Kings’ shutout record and Jeff Carter (1-1--2) scored the winning goal as the Kings won their fifth consecutive home game, 2-0 over the Sabres.

* With his 33rd career shutout, Quick passed Rogie Vachon into sole possession of first on the franchise’s all-time list. He is tied with Nashville’s Pekka Rinne for fourth among active netminders.

* Carter’s winning tally was the 54th of his career, which ranks 16th among active skaters. He has eight points (4-4—8) in his past six games.

ZETTERBERG, RED WINGS STAGE DRAMATIC COMEBACK

Trailing 3-1 with less than three minutes left in regulation, Henrik Zetterberg scored at 17:21 and assisted on Niklas Kronwall’s tying goal at 19:21 before also setting up Justin Abdelkader’s overtime winner to power Detroit to its fourth win of the season. The Red Wings improved to 3-0-2 in their past five games.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Detroit overcame a multi-goal deficit in the final three minutes of regulation to win for the first time since Dec. 23, 2005.

* With his three points, Zetterberg leapfrogged Ted Lindsay into eighth place on the franchise’s all-time points list (282-448—730). He now has 3-6—9 during his four-game point streak, including two games with at least three points (also 0-4—4 on Oct. 17 vs. TOR).

* Kronwall (2-1—3) factored on all three regulation goals and had his first multi-goal game since Nov. 6, 2010 vs. Vancouver. Kronwall became the fifth defenseman in Red Wings history to eclipse 300 points with the club (64-237—301).

* Abdelkader’s overtime tally was the first of his NHL career. He has six career game-winners.

* Jimmy Howard made 23 saves to improve to 4-0-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in six career games versus the Penguins.

BLUE JACKETS ESCAPE SHARK TANK WITH LAST-MINUTE GOAL

Leading 3-2 to start the third period, the Blue Jackets found themselves trailing before the 10-minute mark, but Nick Foligno’s goal at 11:40 tied the score at 4-4 and Mark Letestu netted the winning goal with 20.7 seconds left in regulation to lift the Blue Jackets over the Sharks. Columbus also trailed 2-0 after the first period before scoring three goals in the second period, including two tallies from Ryan Johansen.

* Foligno and Johansen each had multiple points for the third time this season. Both players have recorded a point in each of the Blue Jackets’ six games this season (Foligno: 3-6—9; Johansen: 5-4—9).

* Scott Hartnell set a career high with four assists, also matching his highest single-game point total, accomplished five times before (last: Feb. 17, 2012 vs. Buffalo). He shares the League lead with eight assists.

* Letestu (2-0—2) scored his first two goals the season and sixth game-winner of his career. He now has 2-2—4 this season, with all four points coming in his past three games.

KUEMPER RECORDS THIRD SHUTOUT OF SEASON IN WILD VICTORY

Darcy Kuemper made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Wild scored twice in a span of 2:34 in the second period on goals by Charlie Coyle and Jason Pominville en route to a 2-0 win against the Coyotes.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kuemper (3-1-0) is just the second goaltender in the expansion era (since 1967-68) to earn a shutout in three of his first four games of the season. Pascal Leclaire accomplished the feat for the Blue Jackets to start 2007-08. Kuemper has a goals-against average of 0.50 and a .980 save percentage this season.

* In 18 career regular-season and playoff decisions at Xcel Energy Center, Kuemper has a 13-3-2 record with a 1.61 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage. He has three shutouts in his past six home games, including two this season (also Oct. 9 vs. Colorado).

* The Wild have consecutive shutouts at home and have held opponents scoreless in three of their past five home games dating to the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In addition, Minnesota has five shutouts in its past 10 regular-season games overall: Kuemper (Oct. 9, 11, 23) and Ilya Bryzgalov (Apr. 5 and 7).

* The Wild improved to 19-6-3 at Xcel Energy Center in the 2014 calendar year (regular season and playoffs). They are the only team yet to allow a goal against on home ice this season.

* Zach Parise tallied an assist to bring his total to 6-4—10 in 10 career games against the Coyotes.

* Jared Spurgeon notched an assist on both Wild goals for his 10th career multi-point game.

NEAL, RINNE HELP PREDS CONTINUE HOT START

James Neal had his fifth career hat trick and Pekka Rinne made 30 stops as the Predators skated to a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks to remain the only team without a regulation loss. Chicago’s loss was their first regulation defeat of the 2014-15 campaign.

* At 5-0-2 the Predators are off to their best start to a season since beginning the 2010-11 campaign with points in eight straight contests (5-0-3).

* Neal scored three straight goals – one in each period – to record the first natural hat trick by a Predators player since Martin Erat on Mar. 4, 2008 (5-1 vs. Edmonton). Neal is the fifth Predator to score three goals in a game against Chicago – David Legwand was the last to do so on Jan. 20, 2007. He now has 10-5—15 in 17 career games against the Blackhawks.

* Rinne improved to 5-0-1 this season with a 1.62 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and one shutout.

* Mike Ribeiro had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (3-3—6).

* Filip Forsberg (1-6—7) added to his rookie assists lead with two. He shares the overall rookie scoring lead with Kings forward Tanner Pearson (5-2—7).

* The Predators maintained a close gap to the Blackhawks in their all-time series: NSH: 43-39-11, 97 points; CHI: 46-35-12, 104 points.

FAMILIAR FACES WIN IN RETURNS

Vancouver’s Ryan Miller and NY Islanders’ Chad Johnson each earned a victory in his first meeting against his former club.

* Miller stopped 31 of 32 shots in his return to St. Louis and Nick Bonino broke a 1-1 tie with the first of three unanswered goals in the third period as Vancouver skated to a 4-1 at Scottrade Center. Miller had a 12-12-1 record (regular season and playoffs) after being acquired by the Blues prior to the 2014 Trade Deadline. The Canucks improved to 4-2-0 this season and are 7-2-2 in their past 11 games against the Blues, including four straight wins.

* Johnson stopped 30 shots – including 14 of 15 in the third period – to backstop the Islanders to a 3-2 win in his return to Boston after departing as a free agent in the offseason. He owns a 22-6-6 record in 40 career NHL appearances, including a 17-4-3 mark in 27 games with the Bruins in 2013-14. Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk also played against his former team for the first time since being traded on Oct. 4; he had 19-56—75 in 317 games with Boston from 2008-14.

HILLER, WIDEMAN IGNITE FLAMES

Jonas Hiller (16 saves) recorded his first shutout with Calgary and Dennis Wideman scored his first game-winning goal since Apr. 13, 2013, as the Flames roared to a 5-0 win over the Hurricanes. Calgary is 41-17-8 all-time against Carolina, including a 26-6-2 mark on home ice.

* Hiller’s shutout was the 22nd of his career. He is 4-1-0 with a 1.60 goals-against average and .946 save percentage in six games vs. Carolina.

* Wideman equaled a career high by scoring in his third straight game, a feat he has accomplished twice before, most recently from Dec. 31, 2011 to Jan. 7, 2012. He has 4-1—5 in 8 GP this season after scoring four goals in 46 games in 2013-14.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Calgary’s five-goal margin of victory was its largest in a shutout on home ice since a 5-0 win over Vancouver on Dec. 29, 2000.

* Sean Monahan scored his first two goals of the season.

* Jiri Hudler (0-2—2), Paul Byron (0-2—2), Joe Colborne (0-2—2) and Kris Russell (0-2—2) all had two assists. Hudler eclipsed the 300-point plateau (116-185—301) with his second helper; he now has 1-8—9 in six career games vs. CAR.

HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER AWARENESS NIGHTS

The Red Wings, Wild and Kings hosted their Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Nights on Thursday. Wild forward Zach Parise discussed the importance of the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative and shared how cancer has impacted his life with the recent diagnosis of his father, J.P.

Patrick Marleau recorded his 500th NHL assist to become one of 12 active players with at least 500 assists for the same franchise. Marleau shares second in League scoring with 10 points this season (4-6—10) . . . Islanders forward John Tavares notched his League-leading eighth assist (tie) and 11th point. Teammate Kyle Okposo (1-0—1) now has 4-15—19 in 20 GP vs. Boston, his second-highest total against any team (9-14—23 vs. Pittsburgh) . . . Cal Clutterbuck’s first goal of the season was the game-winner for the Islanders (10th GWG of his career) . . . Joe Pavelski (2-0—2) and Logan Couture (1-1—2) had multiple-point games for the Sharks . . . Boston’s David Krejci extended his point streak to five games (2-5—7), his longest stretch since notching in a point in six straight games from Dec. 21 to Jan. 2 last season (3-4—7) . . . Boston’s Chris Kelly scored his first goal of the season, extending his point streak to five games (1-5—6) . . . Thomas Greiss stopped 27 shots in his debut with the Penguins . . . Blake Comeau (0-2—2) recorded his first multiple-point game since Jan. 21, 2012 (1-2—3 vs. Edmonton with Calgary) . . . Evgeni Malkin has an assist in each of Pittsburgh’s six games this season (2-7—9). He is one shy of 400 in his career . . . Canucks defenseman Alex Edler played 21:33 in his 500th NHL game.
