Kings hope Quick will be ready to start season: report

Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery from offseason wrist surgery and it's hopeful he will be ready to start the 2014-15 season, general manager Dean Lombardi told the Los Angeles Times.

"It's going to go right down to the wire but we think we're fine," Lombardi said Friday, noting Quick has just started to face shots. "We've got [Martin] Jones if we have to go short-term."

At the time of the surgery in late June, the Kings said Quick sustained the injury during their seven-game series win against the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Second Round. Quick still went on to start all 26 games for the Kings as they won the Stanley Cup for the second time in three seasons.

The last time the Kings had a Cup defense, they got to the 2013 Western Conference Final. Lombardi sees his players coming back from the short summer for the 2014-15 season locked in on the task at hand.

"They were on a mission when they left [for the summer]," Lombardi said. "We've never had so many players back this early. When I saw them they looked really good. There seems to be a different focus … something better than even the first time."
