MONTREAL - Guy Lapointe's jersey retirement ceremony will take place Nov. 8 at the Bell Centre before a game against the Minnesota Wild, the Montreal Canadiens announced Friday.

The NHL club announced in June that it will honour Lapointe, the defenceman who played on six Stanley Cup-winning teams over 14 years with the Canadiens.

He will be the 18th Canadien to have his name attached to a retired jersey. His No. 5 had previously been retired for Bernard (Boom Boom) Geoffrion.

Lapointe, 66, was one of the best rushing defencemen of his era. He was a member of the Canadiens' Big Three on defence with Serge Savard and Larry Robinson.

Lapointe had 166 goals and 416 assists in 777 NHL games from 1968-'69 to 1983-'84.
