Jacques Martin was named senior adviser of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team announced Wednesday.

Martin, 61, was an assistant last season on Dan Bylsma's coaching staff. Bylsma was fired after the season and replaced last month by Mike Johnston.

Martin's new duties will include scouting NHL games, with an emphasis on the Eastern Conference, and reporting his findings to general manager Jim Rutherford. Martin won 613 games and made 12 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances in 17 seasons as an NHL coach.
