Penguins name Recchi player development coach

Mark Recchi has been named player development coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team announced Friday. Recchi, who played three separate stints with the Penguins, spent the past two seasons as an adviser to the Dallas Stars hockey operations department.

Recchi, 46, will be in charge of helping to develop prospects throughout the Penguins organization. Recchi spent the past two years working with the Penguins Elite youth hockey program.

Recchi was Pittsburgh's fourth-round pick (No. 67) in the 1988 NHL Draft and played 22 seasons with the Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lighting and Boston Bruins. He won the Stanley Cup three times, once each with the Penguins, Hurricanes and Bruins.

In 1,652 NHL games, Recchi scored 577 goals, which ranks 19th all time, and 1,533 points, which is 12th in League history.
