Penguins' Crosby wins Best NHL Player at ESPYs

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby was named Best NHL Player at the 2014 ESPY Awards on Wednesday.

Crosby, who led the League in scoring with 104 points last season, was given the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in June.

Crosby and New York Rangers center Dominic Moore were among four nominees for Best Comeback Athlete, which was won by NBA guard Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Josh Sweeney, who scored the goal that gave the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team a 1-0 win against Russia for the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Games, received the inaugural Pat Tillman Award for Service.

Declan Farmer, a 16-year-old member of the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, won Best Male Athlete with Disability.

Other NHL nominees were:

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, and Los Angeles Kings forward Anze Kopitar for Best NHL Player.

Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau, for Best Male College Athlete (won by Creighton basketball player Doug McDermott).

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, New York Rangers at Los Angeles Kings, for Best Game (won by Auburn vs. Alabama college football).

Los Angeles Kings, for Best Team (won by Seattle Seahawks of NFL).
