"Tom is resting and recovering nicely," agent Mark Guy said. "He should be ready at some point during [training] camp."
Capitals camp is scheduled to begin Sept. 18, the report said. A Capitals spokesman told CSN Wilson would be cleared at some point during camp.
"Unfortunately there's injuries," coach Barry Trotz told the Washington Post on Wednesday at Capitals development camp. "... I was really excited about Tom having a really good summer then coming into camp. But it’s a setback. He's young. He'll be, I’m sure, pushing to be ready for the start of training camp. If he comes in late, then he'll have some catching up to do."
Guy did not say how Wilson was injured. It occurred in Ontario and Wilson was evaluated by doctors in Toronto, Monumental Network reported at the time.
Wilson, 20, had three goals, seven assists and 151 penalty minutes playing 82 games in his rookie season. He was the No. 16 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Trotz also told the newspaper he expects defenseman Dmitry Orlov to return from left wrist surgery near the start of training camp. Orlov was injured playing for Russia during the IIHF World Championship; he had surgery May 22.
