The Edmonton Oilers on Monday agreed to terms with defenseman Jeff Petry on a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but "Hockey Night in Canada's" Elliotte Friedman reports Petry will make about $3.1 million.

Selected by the Oilers in the second round (No. 45) of the 2006 NHL Draft, Petry, 26, had 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) and 42 penalty minutes in 80 games last season. He led Edmonton in blocked shots (132) and hits (181), the third straight season he ranked in the top two on the Oilers in hits.

Petry has spent his entire NHL career with the Oilers, and has 59 points (13 goals, 46 assists) and 107 penalty minutes in 236 games. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native represented the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Championship, where he had four assists in eight games, and played in the tournament in 2012 and 2013.
