TORONTO - Marlies forward Sam Carrick scored twice to help Toronto edge the Rochester Americans 4-3 in American Hockey League action Saturday afternoon.
Carrick's second, on a breakaway at 17:35 of the third, stood to be the winner. Carrick faked backhand before beating Americans starter Connor Knapp glove-side for his 14th of the season.
Tim Schaller scored twice and Fredrick Roy had the goals for Rochester (37-28-11). Knapp made 30 saves in the loss.
Toronto is the third seed in the Western Conference and will start the playoffs next weekend on the road against the Milwaukee Admirals before returning home May 1 to host Game 3. Rochester meanwhile is the seventh seed and will play Grand Rapids in the first round.
Schaller's second of the afternoon, on a power play, gave Rochester a 3-2 lead as a shot off a Chad Ruhwedel feed squeezed by MacIntyre at 4:32 of the third.
However a minute later Leivo tied it 3-3 after putting home the rebound off of Kevin Marshall's point shot for his 23rd of the season.
Schaller opened the scoring at 3:09 of the first period back handing a Ruhwedel feed past MacIntyre.
Carrick responded 66 seconds later by cutting to the net and beating Knapp stick-side.
Yeo gave the Marlies their first lead of the afternoon, beating Knapp with a blast from the point for his first of the season at 9:28 of the opening frame.
Roy tied it 2-2 at 5:07 of the second with a shot in off of Marlies defenceman Petter Granberg.
