Blackhawks' Khabibulin out with torn rotator cuff

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder and likely will miss 4-5 months.

The Blackhawks confirmed the procedure was performed under the supervision of head team physician Dr. Michael Terry at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

"Nikolai underwent surgery [Tuesday] on his right shoulder," Terry said in a statement released by the team. "He had a rotator cuff injury which was becoming increasingly symptomatic that we repaired. The procedure went very well and I anticipate a full recovery. He should be able to return to hockey in 4-5 months."

Khabibulin, 40, re-signed with the Blackhawks in the summer to back up Corey Crawford. However, he played four games before getting hurt. He's 1-0-1 with a 5.00 goals-against average and .811 save percentage
