New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias was injured in the first period Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins after taking a hit from forward Tanner Glass.

Elias did not return to the game and coach Peter DeBoer said afterward the team would know more about his condition in the morning.

Elias was not available to the media, but captain Bryce Salvador seemed optimistic Elias would be OK.

"I saw him walking around and stuff like that, so I don't think it's too bad," Salvador told the (Bergen) Record's Tom Gulitti. "Hopefully it's a couple days here and maybe he's skating and he's ready to go."

Elias appeared to lose his balance as a result of the hit by Glass and crashed into the boards. He stayed down for some time before eventually getting up and leaving the ice under his own power.

The 37-year-old has seven goals and 25 points in 33 games this season.
