Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard has a Grade 1 MCL sprain and will miss 2-4 weeks, general manager Ken Holland said.

The news was reported Friday by MLive.com.

Howard last played Tuesday in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers. He is 6-8-7 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.

In his absence, the Red Wings have Jonas Gustavsson, who has an 8-1-2 record, 1.93 GAA and .933 save percentage.

Petr Mrazek was recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League earlier this week to serve as Gustavsson's backup.
