York makes 24 saves as Stars down Marlies 5-2

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Allen York stopped 24 shots as the Texas Stars downed the visiting Toronto Marlies 5-2 on Saturday in American Hockey League play.

Brett Ritchie and Travis Morin each had a goal and an assist for the Stars (10-6-4) while Cameron Gaunce set up two goals. Mike Hedden, Curtis McKenzie and Chris Mueller also scored to round out the Texas offence.

Carter Ashton scored once for the Marlies (9-7-1) and assisted on Spencer Abbott's goal as well.

Toronto's Drew MacIntyre kicked out 38-of-43 shots in a losing cause.

Ritchie opened the scoring at 14:51 of th first period for Texas.

Abbott responded for the Marlies 31 seconds into the second, but McKenzie and Mueller scored 23 seconds apart to make it 3-1 Stars and Morin added another before the period was through.

Ashton kept it close for Toronto by scoring at 16:10 of the third period, but any chance of a comeback was halted when Hedden made it 5-2 only 46 seconds later.

Texas went 1 for 2 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
