Devils place forward Clowe on injured reserve

Wednesday, 10.16.2013 / 1:42 PM NHL.com

The New Jersey Devils placed forward Ryane Clowe on injured reserve on Wednesday, retroactive to Oct. 13, with a head injury. Clowe, who has an assist and a minus-5 rating in six games in his first season with the Devils, will miss the team's next two games, against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday and the New York Rangers on Saturday.

"[Clowe] got hit with a pretty good elbow in the third period [Sunday in Winnipeg] and continued to play," Devils president/general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

The headache has since disappeared and Clowe told Lamoriello he wanted to play Thursday, but the Devils are holding him off the ice given his history with head injuries. Clowe had three suspected concussions last season, but received a clean bill of health before signing a five-year contract worth $4.85 million annually.

"We just maybe overreacted to it, but when somebody's had a history, we don't want to take any chances," Lamoriello said.

Mattias Tedenby (lower body) will be activated off the injured non-roster list.
