Zetterberg sent it into overtime when he pushed a loose puck past Ward after a scramble in front of the net. Ward lost his stick while stopping a shot from Daniel Alfredsson a moment earlier.
Weiss then ended it when he stuffed a loose puck past Ward.
ISLANDERS 4, DEVILS 3, SO
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Matt Moulson scored the only goal of the shootout in the sixth round and New York opened the season with a victory over New Jersey.
Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves and stopped all six Devils shots in the shootout as the Islanders won a season opener for the first time since 2007.

SENATORS 1, SABRES 0
Former Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur set up the goal to spoil the Sabres' home opener.
Driving up the left wing, MacArthur slipped a pass through the middle to set up Karlsson alone in the right circle. Karlsson got just enough of the puck to direct it toward the net and under goalie Ryan Miller's legs.
Miller had a solid outing despite the loss in stopping 45 shots.
Karlsson's goal came a half-minute after Anderson made a huge glove save at the other end, stopping rookie Zemgus Girgensons' shot from the high slot.
FLAMES 4, BLUE JACKETS 3
Rookie Sean Monahan picked up his first NHL goal and T.J. Galiardi had a goal and an assist for the Flames, who opened their season with a 5-4 loss at Washington on Thursday night.
Goalie Joey MacDonald made 29 saves.
