WASHINGTON – Washington Capitals defenseman Jack Hillen left the game Thursday after absorbing a check from Calgary Flames left wing Lance Bouma midway through the first period.
He did not return. The Capitals won the game 5-4 in a shootout.
Hillen was down on the ice for a few minutes before being helped off the ice by right wing Alex Ovechkin and head athletic trainer Greg Smith. Hillen did not put any weight on his right leg as he went down the tunnel toward the dressing room.
The 27-year-old missed 25 games last season with a left shoulder injury after a hard check into the end boards by Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier in the season opener.
