Penguins sign veteran Kobasew to one-year contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday announced the signing of veteran forward Chuck Kobasew to a one-year, $550,000 contract.

Kobasew, 31, attended Penguins camp as a professional tryout and posted two goals in five preseason games.

A first-round pick (No. 14) in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames, Kobasew is a three-time 20-goal scorer. He scored a career-high 22 goals in 2007-08 for the Boston Bruins and posted a career-high 42 points the following season.

In 568 career games for the Flames, Bruins, Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche, Kobasew has 108 goals and 208 points. He went to the Stanley Cup Final with the 2003-04 Flames and has career totals of four goals and eight points in 44 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
