Sharks sign first-round pick Mueller

The San Jose Sharks signed Mirco Mueller, their first-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, to an entry-level contract, the club announced Sunday.

Mueller was the No. 18 selection in the draft held June 30 at Prudential Center. The defenseman had six goals and 31 points in 63 games for the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. Mueller also represented his native Switzerland in the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships.

The same day Mueller signed his contract he was one of eight players cut from Sharks' camp. He will return to Everett for the 2013-14 season.
