Scheifele sheds blood as he tries for Jets but it can't keep him off ice

WINNIPEG - Mark Scheifele has had a taste of the NHL since being drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2011.

He's hoping a strong performance at camp will help him stay with the team this season — and he's ready to shed a little blood to earn his spot.

Scheifele, who has played 11 career games with the Jets, picked up a split lip from a stick on the opening day of training camp but stayed on the ice.

Scheifele played on a line with Evander Kane and Devon Setoguchi.

Coach Claude Noel says by the end of camp, he wants to know who's provisionally on his two top lines.

The combo of Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd looks secure but Noel says it's too early to say whether Scheifele and Setoguchi will line up with Kane.
