SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks have signed centre Joe Pavelski to a five-year contract extension.

Pavelski ended the shortened 2012-13 season tied for third on the team with 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) in 48 games. He was one of the Sharks' most dangerous players in the playoffs with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 11 games.

He scored five game-winning goals, tied for sixth in the NHL.

In 479 NHL games — all with the Sharks — Pavelski has 336 points (150 goals, 186 assists) in 479 games.

The Sharks selected Pavelski in the seventh round, 205th overall, of the 2003 NHL draft.

The five-foot-11, 190-pound native of Plover, Wis., was part of the American team that won silver at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
