The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday announced the signing of forward Matt D'Agostini to a one-year, $550,000 contract.

D’Agostini, 26, split the 2012-13 season playing for the St. Louis Blues and the New Jersey Devils and combined for three goals and six points in 29 games.

"It's a best-case scenario," he said of joining the Penguins. "It's a great fit for me and my game. I'm really excited about it."

D’Agostini had his best season with St. Louis in 2010-11, establishing career highs with 82 games played, 21 goals, 25 assists, 46 points, six power-play goals and five game-winning goals. His 21 goals that season were third-most on the team.

D’Agostini, who was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the sixth round (No. 190) of the 2005 NHL Draft, has played five-plus NHL seasons with the New Jersey, St. Louis and Montreal, totaling 47 goals and 95 points in 264 regular-season games. He has one goal in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.
