HALIFAX - Zachary Fucale made 28 saves and Stefan Fournier had a goal and two assists as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 4-0 in Game 1 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final on Friday.

Halifax opened the scoring at the 16:20 mark of the second period as defenceman Konrad Albeltshauser shovelled a puck in off a goal-mouth scramble.

The San Jose Sharks sixth-round pick crashed the net and banged home the rebound of a Fournier shot for a power-play goal.

It was the fifth goal of the playoffs for Abeltshauser, who has been a clutch scorer in the post-season with 13 goals in 32 QMJHL playoffs games. He has just 28 in 219 regular season games.

The Mooseheads got some offensive output from unexpected sources as captain Trey Lewis notched his first of the playoffs to give Halifax a 2-0 lead 5:52 into the third.

Lewis, who took a long-range wrist shot off the rush, followed up to corral his own rebound and beat Baie-Comeau goalie Philippe Cadorette.

With the Drakkar enjoying a man advantage mid-way through the third, Fucale made a great glove save on Felix Girard 10:30 into the third period to preserve the shutout.

Checking forward Ryan Falkenham, potted his first career QMJHL playoff goal to make it 3-0 and Fournier added an empty-netter.

Game 2 is Saturday in Halifax.
