Barons score three power play goals in second period in 7-3 win over Heat

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Barons scored three power play goals during a four-goal second period to dump the Abbotsford Heat 7-3 in AHL action Saturday.

Jonathan Cheechoo had two of the power-play goals, with his second coming at 19:30 of the second period to give Oklahoma City (39-25-11) a 3-1 lead. C.J. Stretch made it 4-1 with another power play goal at 19:59.

Chris VandeVelde opened the scoring for the Barons in the first period.

Carter Bancks tied it for Abbotsford at 7:11 of the second period, and Cheechoo put Oklahoma City in front for good just 1:37 later.

Martin Marincin upped the Barons' lead to 5-1 early in the third period. VandeVelde and Tyler Pitlick also scored for the Barons.

Ben Walter and Krys Kolanos rounded out the scoring for the Heat (34-32-10), which played its final game of the season, and missed the playoffs.

Yann Danis made 21 saves for the Barons, while Leland Irving stopped 30 shots for the Heat.

Abbotsford was 0 for 2 on the power play, while Oklahoma City was 3 for 4 with the man advantage.
