TORONTO - Will Acton's eighth goal of the season was the winner as the Toronto Marlies edged the Oklahoma City Barons 2-1 in AHL action Tuesday.

Acton was sprung into the Barons' zone with a long lead pass from Dylan Yeo, and beat goalie Yann Danis with a high shot at 10:56 of the third period.

Greg McKegg opened the scoring for Toronto (41-23-9) at 11:04 of the second period with his eighth goal of the season when he deflected defenceman Morgan Rielly's shot from the left point.

Winger Joshua Leivo, the Toronto Maple Leafs' third-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, picked up his first AHL point on McKegg’s goal in his first game with the Marlies.

Acton's goal at 10:56 of the third period made it 2-0, and the Barons (37-25-11) made it close with Philippe Cornet scoring his 15th of the season with just over a minute left.

Drew MacIntyre made 30 saves for the Marlies and Danis stopped 30 shots for the Barons.

Overall there weren't many quality scoring chances as most of the shots were kept to the outside.

The Marlies nearly opened the scoring with just under four minutes remaining in the first period when Mike Zigomanis fired a shot that hit the post.

Oklahoma City was given an opportunity right at the end of the second period when Acton was given a double minor for high-sticking, but the Barons failed to capitalize.
