Lightning sign Bishop to two-year extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning dealt for Ben Bishop at the NHL Trade Deadline with the hope he'd stabilize their goaltending for years to come.

On Monday, the Lightning announced they have agreed with Bishop on a two-year contract extension. Terms were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-7 Bishop has played in six games with the Lightning since being acquired from the Ottawa Senators for Cory Conacher and a fourth-round draft pick. He has posted a 2-3-0 record with a 3.21 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

Bishop made his Lightning debut on April 4 at Carolina, stopping all 45 shots he faced to become the second goalie in franchise history to post a shutout in his Lightning debut (Dwayne Roloson, Jan. 4, 2011) while tying the franchise record for most saves in a shutout (Daren Puppa, Nov. 27, 1995).

He has played in a total of 19 games this season with Tampa Bay and Ottawa, recording a 10-8-0 record with a 2.68 GAA, .920 save percentage and two shutouts.

Bishop, originally a third-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2005 NHL Draft, has played in 42 career NHL games, compiling a 17-16-3 record with a 2.67 GAA and .912 save percentage.
