Veteran goaltender Peter Budaj and the Montreal Canadiens agreed on a two-year contract extension Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed, but ESPN.com is reporting the value of the deal to be $1.4 million per season.

In eight games this season, Budaj is 6-1-1 with a 2.17 goals-against average, .917 save percentage and one shutout.

"He's been a great teammate for us," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said before the Canadiens faced the Philadelphia Flyers on April 3. "He played really well and he's working hard. He has such a great attitude."

In his eighth NHL season, 6-foot-1 Budaj has a career mark of 112-99-33, with a 2.79 GAA, .903 save percentage and 10 shutouts.

A second-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 NHL Draft, he played his first six seasons for the club, winning a career-high 31 games in 2006-07.
