Edmonton Oilers acquire veteran centre Jerred Smithson from Florida Panthers

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Jerred Smithson from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft.

The 34-year-old native of Vernon, B.C., has five points in 35 games this season.

Smithson made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2002-'03 season.

The undrafted forward spent parts of seven seasons with the Nashville Predators.

He was dealt to Florida last season.

Smithson has recorded 95 points (38 goals, 57 assists) in 578 career NHL regular-season games.
