The Phoenix Coyotes on Friday acquired forward Tobias Rieder from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Kale Kessy in a swap of junior prospects.

Rieder (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) scored 27 goals and finished with 56 points in 52 regular-season games for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. In 2011-12, the native of Landshut, Germany, scored 42 goals and had 84 points for the Rangers, then led the OHL with 13 goals and 27 points in 16 postseason games.

Rieder was drafted by the Oilers in the fourth round (No. 114) in 2011.

Kessy, a 6-foot-3, 192 pound player chosen by Phoenix three selections before Edmonton picked Rieder, had 12 goals and 25 points in 31 games for Kamloops of the Western Hockey League this season after being acquired from the Vancouver Giants in January. He had seven goals and 16 points in 26 games with Vancouver.
