Nothing has stopped Alex Ovechkin of late, but a stray puck to the face sent him to the doctor's office for stitches Thursday morning, according to reports by media present for Washington Capitals practice.
A team spokesman told reporters Ovechkin would not return to practice. According to Chuck Gormley of CSNwashington.com, Ovechkin "suffered a cut to his lip/mouth when the puck from his rebound hit him in the mouth."
Ovechkin later tweeted a picture of the damage with the comment: "It's hockey ))) hahaha"
Ovechkin had a five-game goal streak snapped Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders, but he extended his point-scoring streak to six consecutive games with an assist. In his past eight games, Ovechkin has seven goals and five assists.
