SAGINAW, Mich. - The London Knights are a win away from advancing to the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.

Alex Broadhurst scored three goals and Anthony Stolarz made 32 saves as the Knights trounced the Saginaw Spirit 7-1 on Tuesday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven quarter-final series.

Kyle Platzer, Remi Elie, Paxton Leroux and Nikita Zadorov also scored for the Knights, while Max Domi and Dekota Mermis pitched in with a pair of assists each.

Dalton Young scored the only goal for the Spirit, who will try to avoid a sweep in Game 4 Thursday night at the Dow Event Center.

Saginaw outshot London 33-28 but Stolarz was outstanding once again turning aside all but one for the Knights. Jake Paterson finished with 21 saves at the other end.

Broadhurst got the Knights up and running as he finished off a three-way passing play early in the game at the 2:12 mark.

Less then four minutes later London made it 2-0 as Platzer scored unassisted after moving in front before putting the puck past Paterson.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Guelph 3 Kitchener 2; Niagara 4 Oshawa 2; Sudbury 3 Brampton 1; and Mississauga 5 Belleville 2.

At Saginaw, Mich., the Spirit trimmed the lead to one when Young scored from the point with the man advantage at 13:46 of the first period.

However, it was all Knights from there as Elie made it 3-1 at 4:34 of the second when he picked the puck out of the air, dropped it to his back hand and slid the puck into the net.

Broadhurst got his second of the night at 6:12, putting the Knights up by a 4-1 count after two periods.

Paxton increased the lead to 5-1 early in the third period with his first career OHL goal.

Broadhurst netted his hat trick at 12:19 and Zadorov finished the scoring on the power play with just 15 seconds left in the game.

London was 2-for-7 on the power play while Saginaw managed to score once in four chances with the man advantage.
