Bruins' Krejci day-to-day with knee bruise

Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien told CSNNE.com that center David Krejci is day-to-day after being hit in the right leg with a shot during the Bruins' 2-1 loss Sunday to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Julien added that Krejci did not have any broken bones in his leg, but instead has a bad bruise on his knee.

With 5:14 left in the third period Sunday, Krejci was hit in the right knee while attempting to jump out of the way of a shot by teammate Johnny Boychuk. After being hit, Krejci stayed down on the ice in obvious pain for several minutes before finally being helped off the ice.

Krejci traveled with the team to Winnipeg on Monday ahead of the Bruins' game against the Jets on Tuesday, but his availability is in question.

"He came in for treatment and he's day-to-day," Julien said. "It's serious enough that he didn't skate [Monday] and he's getting treatment, but we'll see how he is [Tuesday]. There are no broken bones. The damage is from the shot, as you know. But he's getting treatment and we're hoping he'll get back soon. It's nothing to the point where we'd be talking about weeks [that Krejci is out of the lineup]."

Just in case Krejci can't play, CSNNE.com has reported the Bruins have recalled center Ryan Spooner from Providence of the American Hockey League. In his first professional season, Spooner leads Providence with 33 assists and 45 points in 50 games. A 2010 second-round draft pick, he made his NHL debut Feb. 6, putting one shot on goal in 5:29 of ice time.
