McDowell scores winner as Otters defeat Storm in overtime

ERIE, Pa. - Jimmy McDowell completed Erie's comeback on Saturday as the Otters downed the visiting Guelph Storm 5-4 in overtime in Ontario Hockey League action.

McDowell scored at 4:48 of extra time as Erie battled back from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to end its regular season in a positive fashion.

Connor Brown scored twice for the Otters (19-40-9), including his second at 19:59 of the third period to force overtime, and Adam Pelech had a goal and an assist.

Brown finishes the season as Erie's leader in both goals and points with 28 goals and 69 points in 63 games.

Connor McDavid had four assists for the Otters while Dane Fox scored once.

McDavid's four assists gives the rookie 66 points in 63 games. However, Sarnia Sting freshman Nikolay Goldobin picked up a goal and an assist Saturday to finish the year with 68 points in 68 games, and top spot in rookie scoring.

Scott Kosmachuk led the Storm (39-23-6) with a goal and two assists and Tyler Bertuzzi, Patrick Watling and Zac Leslie each scored once.

Oscar Dansk made 25 saves for the win as Michael Nishi stopped 40-of-45 shots in defeat.

Erie went 3 for 4 on the power play while Guelph scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

The Otters will miss the playoffs for the second year in a row while the Storm have the fifth seed in the Western Conference and will face the Kitchener Rangers in the first round.
