Blackhawks' Hossa sidelined with upper-body injury

CHICAGO – Marian Hossa did not dress for the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night against the Colorado Avalanche at United Center.

Shortly after the opening puck drop, an announcement in the press box said Hossa was not playing because of an undisclosed upper-body injury.

"Upper-body injury, nothing serious, should be back soon," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told NBC Sports Network from the bench during the first period.

Quenneville gave no indication prior to the game that Hossa was injured.

Hossa played his 1,000th career game Sunday against the Detroit Red Wings and was given a special pregame ceremony to commemorate it prior to Tuesday night’s 5-3 victory at home against the Minnesota Wild.

Hossa was knocked out of a game Feb. 20 against the Vancouver Canucks. He played in the next game on Feb. 22 and each game since.

Hossa scored his 10th goal of the season against the Wild, capping a four-goal first period for Chicago, which is trying to extend a 23-game points streak to start this season. Daniel Carcillo was playing in place of Hossa at right wing on the top line.
