SUNRISE, Fla. -- Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward left Sunday's game against the Florida Panthers with a leg injury at 8:56 of the second period.

Ward initially was shaken up after Hurricanes defenseman Joe Corvo slid into him trying to defend Jack Skille's rush to the net, but stayed in the game.

Less than a minute later, Ward prepared to stop a shot from the point and went down when the puck was deflected away.

Ward, who stopped all 15 shots he faced as Carolina took a 3-0 lead, was replaced by Dan Ellis.

Eillis was scheduled to start the game but did not because he was not feeling well.
