Drouin's point streak hits 25 games as Mooseheads defeat Huskies

Jonathan Drouin extended his point streak to 25 games on Friday as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the host Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 5-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

The 17-year-old winger scored once and set up two more for Halifax and has 23 goals and 57 points during his run. With 38 goals and 97 points in only 44 games played, Drouin is one point ahead of P.E.I. Rocket forward Ben Duffy for the QMJHL scoring lead. Duffy has 33 goals and 96 points, however he has played 17 more games than Drouin.

Andrew Ryan and Martin Frk each had a goal and an assist for the Mooseheads (51-6-3), who have won nine in a row, while Darcy Ashley and Stephen MacAulay added single goals.

Marcus Power and Nikita Kucherov scored for the Huskies (34-23-4), who have dropped back-to-back contests.

Halifax's Zachary Fucale made 20 saves for his league-leading 40th win of the season as Rouyn-Noranda's Alexandre Belanger turned away 30 shots in defeat.

The Mooseheads went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Huskies failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Victoriaville 4, Saint John 3; Drummondville 2, Quebec 1 (OT); Moncton 4, Rimouski 2; Sherbrooke 5, Blainville-Boisbriand 2; Baie-Comeau 6, Gatineau 1; Chicoutimi 4, Shawinigan 0 and Val-d'Or 6, P.E.I. 5 (SO).

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Power opened the scoring for the Huskies at 16:10 of the first period. The Mooseheads, however, responded with four straight goals in the second period.

Ashley tied the game for Halifax 3:24 into the second and less than three minutes later Ryan gave his club their first lead of the game.

Drouin and Frk added a goal apiece to make it 4-1 heading into the final period.

Kucherov brought Rouyn-Noranda within two goals 4:09 into the third, but that was as close as the Huskies would get as MacAulay added an empty-net goal to seal the victory for Halifax.

At Saint John, N.B., Philippe Maillet scored the winner with 40 seconds left and he set up each of his club's other three goals as Victoriaville (29-24-8) slipped past the Sea Dogs (22-38-1) for their third win in a row.

At Quebec City, Matthew Boudens scored 55 seconds into overtime and Louis-Philip Guindon turned away 27 shots as Drummondville (34-23-4) edged the Remparts (36-20-5) for its third win in a row.

At Rimouski, Que., Phillip Danault scored two goals and Dmitrij Jaskin had his fourth straight multi-point game with a goal and an assist as Moncton (39-20-1) extended its win streak to five games by doubling up the Oceanic (38-15-9).

At Sherbrooke, Que., Jacob Gervais-Chouinard stopped 42-of-44 shots and Simon Desbiens scored two goals as the Phoenix (19-35-7) ended Blainville-Boisbriand's (36-17-8) four-game win streak.

At Gatineau, Que., Samuel Noreau, Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau and Alexandre Ranger each had a goal and an assist as Baie-Comeau (40-17-5) crushed the Olympiques (27-31-3), who are winless in six contests.

At Shawingian, Que., Christopher Gibson stopped all 25 shots he faced and Sebastien Sylvestre earned the game's first star with a goal and an assist as Chicoutimi (27-29-7) blanked the Cataractes (14-41-7), who have dropped seven games in a row.

At Val-d'Or, Que., Brett Hester scored the winner while Loik Poudrier and Brandon Hynes each had a goal and two assists in regulation as the Foreurs (35-24-3) edged P.E.I. (35-22-4), which led 5-3 in the third period before giving up the lead.
