The Anaheim Ducks on Thursday named Brian Burke to a part-time professional scouting position with the organization.

"We are happy to welcome Brian back to the organization," Ducks executive vice president/general manager Bob Murray said. "Anytime you can add a person of his quality to your staff, it makes your organization better. We’ve had success working together before and look forward to doing it again."

Prior to taking over as president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs in November 2008, Burke served as executive vice president/GM of the Ducks from 2005-08. He was relieved of his duties with the Maple Leafs on Jan. 9.

In Burke's three-plus seasons with the Ducks, they captured a Pacific Division title and Stanley Cup in 2007, and had two 100-plus point seasons (2006-07, 2007-08). The Ducks qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in all three seasons, winning six of eight series over that span.

Burke most recently assumed a role as senior adviser to the Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment Enterprise Board of Governors.
