Sylvester, Gagnon two goals each as the Sagueneens snap winless streak

Sebastien Sylvester and Mathieu Gagnon each had two goals and an assist as the Chicoutimi Sagueneens halted their winless streak by defeating the visiting Val-d'Or Foreurs 7-5 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Guillaume Asselin scored once and set up two more for the Sagueneens (25-27-6), who had lost their last eight contests, while Charles Hudon chipped in with three assists.

Simon Tremblay and Laurent Dauphin had a goal and an assist apiece to round out Chicoutimi's offence.

Anton Zlobin had a goal and two assists for the Foreurs (31-23-3), who had their five-game win streak snapped, and Guillaume Rioux-Legault, Anthony Mantha, Vincent Dunn and Loik Poudrier each scored once.

Zlobin's two points give him three goals and seven assists in his last four contests while Mantha's goal was his league-leading 43rd of the season.

Chicoutimi's Julio Billia made 27 saves for the victory as Val-d'Or's Philippe Trudeau stopped 29-of-36 shots.

The Sagueneens went 3 for 8 on the power play while the Foreurs scored twice on six chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Cape Breton 4, Drummondville 1; Halifax 5, Moncton 2; P.E.I. 6, Saint John 2 and Rouyn-Noranda 7, Blainville-Boisbriand 5.

At Chicoutimi, Que., Rioux-Legault opened the scoring 3:56 into the first period, but Tremblay responded at 6:27 to make it 1-1.

Dunn scored shorthanded at 12:49 to regain the lead for the Foreurs, however the Sagueneens scored three straight goals for a 4-2 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Asselin and Sylvester scored 35 seconds apart and Dauphin followed them up with a short-handed goal at 17:30.

Gagnon scored just over seven minutes into the second period with the man advantage before Poudrier and Mantha responded with power-play goals for Val-d'Or to make it 5-4 Chicoutimi heading into the third period.

Sylvester opened the third with a goal for the Sagueneens, but Zlobin kept the game close by tacking on the Foreurs second power-play goal of the game.

Any chance of a come back was stalled when Gagnon scored while up a man at 14:51.

At Boisbriand, Que., Sven Andrighetto scored four goals and added two assists while Nikita Kucherov had two goals and three assists as Rouyn-Noranda (31-21-4) ended its four-game slide by defeating Blainville-Boisbriand (32-14-8).
