Adam Lowry helped make sure Edmonton failed to set a new franchise best winning streak.

The Swift Current winger scored twice and Eetu Laurikainen turned aside 38 of 39 shots to lead the Broncos to an upset 3-1 win over the visiting Oil Kings in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

Edmonton (41-12-5) was going for a record 12th straight win, but came up against a plucky Broncos team that jumped out to an early lead.

Lowry scored his team leading 35th goal to give the Broncos a 1-0 first period lead. He added his 36th of the year on a power play just 45 seconds into the third period.

The teams traded power-play goals in the second, with Swift Current defenceman Richard Nedomlel connecting for his fifth of the campaign, while Edmonton's Dylan Wruck fired home his 18th of the year.

Broncos defenceman Reece Scarlett had three points after assisting on each Swift Current goal.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was: Kelowna 3 Everett 2; Medicine Hat 3 Kootenay 2; and Victoria 5 Spokane 3.

At Swift Current, Sask., Oil Kings netminder Laurent Brossoit yielded three goals on 27 shots.

Edmonton still leads the Eastern Conference standings by a 20-point margin at 41-12-5.

The win moved Swift Current (27-24-5) into a sixth place tie with the idle Lethbridge Hurricanes.
