The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has a new points leader as Peter Trainor scored twice and added three assists in the Rimouski Oceanic's 8-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old winger extended his point streak to 15 games with his five-point performance and now has 37 goals and 86 points in 54 contests, which puts him two points ahead of P.E.I. Rocket forward Ben Duffy for the league lead in points. The last time Trainor failed to pick up at least one point in a game was back on Dec. 28th and during his run he has 14 goals and 16 assists.

Alexandre Lavoie scored three times and added an assist for the Oceanic (36-12-6), who have won nine of their last 11 games, while Frederik Gauthier had two goals.

Lavoie, who earlier in the year put together a 17-game point streak, is seventh in QMJHL scoring with 31 goals and 77 points in 49 games.

Kevin Gagne had a goal and an assist for Rimouski and Francis Beauvillier chipped in with three assists.

Connor Donaghey and Oliver Cooper scored for the Sea Dogs (20-32-1), who have lost eight of their last nine outings.

Rimouski's Robin Gusse made 15 saves for the victory as Saint John's Sebastien Auger took the loss after allowing six goals on 32 shots in 40 minutes of action. Alex Fournier replaced Auger to start the third period and stopped 12-of-14 shots in relief.

The Oceanic went 3 for 6 on the power play while the Sea Dogs scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

With the victory, Rimouski moves one point ahead of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for top spot in the East Division.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Quebec 3, Shawinigan 2 (OT); Drummondville 2, Blainville-Boisbriand 1 (OT); Sherbrooke 5, Rouyn-Noranda 4 (SO) and Victoriaville 7, Gatineau 2.

Because of weather, Moncton versus P.E.I. was postponed and a new date has yet to be determined.

At Saint John, N.B., Cooper opened the scoring for the Sea Dogs with a power-play goal 5:40 into the first period, however the Oceanic responded with seven straight goals.

Trainor, Lavoie and Gauthier all scored with the man advantage before the first period was through to give Rimouski a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Trainor tacked on his second goal of the game 4:02 into the second period, Gagne added another less than two minutes later and Lavoie scored for the second time at 18:30.

Lavoie completed his hat trick 32 seconds into the third period, making it 7-1.

Donaghey stopped Rimouski's run with a goal at 2:40, however Gauthier added his second goal midway through the period.
