OHL Roundup: Daniel Milne leads Owen Sound Attack over Kingston Frontenacs

Daniel Milne scored twice in regulation and added the shootout winner Friday as the Owen Sound Attack beat the host Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 in the Ontario Hockey League.

Milne's goal at 10:31 of the second period was his first in the OHL and he now has three points in two games with Owen Sound.

"To be honest, I was on for the first goal against. So, I was pretty upset. You'd think it would be pretty cool (to score your) first OHL goal," the 18-year-old forward said. "But I was more like, 'OK, now I'm even. Now I gotta get one more."

Daniel Catenacci and Cameron Brace also scored for the Attack (27-12-3), while Jaden Lindo chipped in with two assists.

Darcy Greenaway scored twice for the Frontenacs (20-20-3), who dropped their fourth game in a row. Warren Steele and Sam Povorozniouk each had a goal and an assist.

"I've been in a bit of a slump lately. It was just nice to get those bounces," said Greenaway, who hit the 20-goal mark.

Jordan Binnington made 30 saves for the victory. Mike Morrison stopped 32 shots in a losing cause.

Owen Sound went 1-for-4 on the power play while Kingston failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Belleville 7, Niagara 2; Plymouth 3, Mississauga 2; Sarnia 7, Erie 6; Saginaw 5, Sault Ste. Marie 3; Kitchener 4, Brampton 3 (SO); Windsor 5, London 2; Guelph 6, Ottawa 0; and Sudbury 3, Barrie 2 (SO).

At Kingston, Ont., Povorozniouk buried a rebound at 18:10 of the first period to give the Frontenacs a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The action picked up in the second period as five combined goals were scored in just over seven minutes.

Milne and Brace put the Attack up 2-1 before Kingston responded with three goals in two minutes.

Greenaway scored twice to reclaim the lead and Steele made it 4-2 for the Frontenacs with 2:24 to play in the period.

Owen Sound kept the pressure on in the third period as Catenacci buried a rebound in front of Morrison while on the power play and Milne forced overtime with his second goal of the game with less than eight minutes to play in the period.

Kingston started the overtime period on the power play but could not generate a solid chance.

At St. Catharines, Ont., Tyler Graovac and Brendan Gaunce each had four points and Stephen Silas chipped in two goals as Belleville (25-12-5) crushed the IceDogs (23-19-3).

At Plymouth, Mich., Garrett Meurs scored the winning goal at 15:07 of the third period and Ryan Hartman had a goal and an assist as the Whalers (22-13-8) handed Mississauga (20-19-4) its six straight defeat.

At Sarnia, Ont., Bryan Moores had two goals and two assists and Anthony DeAngelo also put up four points with a goal and three assists as the Sting (26-15-3) came from behind to beat Erie (14-23-7).

At Saginaw, Mich., Eric Locke scored three goals and set up two more and Garret Ross scored twice as the Spirit (21-19-5) extended their win streak to six games by defeating Sault Ste. Marie (23-19-3).

At Kitchener, Ont., Justin Bailey scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout and John Gibson stopped 35-of-38 shots as the Rangers (25-13-6) slipped past Brampton (20-18-8).

At London, Ont., the Spitfires scored three times on their first eight shots against Jake Patterson and Jaroslav Pavelka stopped 32 shots at the other end as Windsor (18-19-8) downed London (35-8-3).

At Ottawa, Garret Sparks stopped 24 shots for his league-leading fifth shutout of the season and Tanner Richard and Daniel Poliziani each had a goal and two assists as Guelph (25-14-5) blanked the 67's (12-31-3).

At Sudbury, Ont., Nicholas Baptiste scored the winner in the shootout and Franky Palazesse turned away 28-of-30 shots as the Wolves (21-17-7) beat Barrie (29-13-2).
