QMJHL Roundup: A look at Sunday's games

Sunday, 12.30.2012 / 10:44 PM The Canadian Press

Anton Zlobin seems to step up his performance every time his Val-d'Or Foreurs play the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The 19-year-old winger scored three goals and added three assists as the Foreurs downed the host Huskies 8-6 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The six-point performance is a career high for Zlobin and in three games this season against Rouyn-Noranda, the third-year player has scored five goals and 10 points.

Cedrick Henley also scored three times for the Foreurs (18-17-3) and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier had a goal and two assists.

For Henley, it was his first-career hat trick in 110 games and he now has 13 goals on the season, which ties his career high that was set last season as a sophomore.

In just his fourth game since being acquired from the Shawinigan Cataractes, Loik Poudrier chipped in with three assists while Jessy Morin added a single goal to round out Val-d'Or's offence.

Jean-Sebastien Dea scored three times for the Huskies (25-11-1), who had their seven-game win streak halted, and Marcus Power had three assists.

Dea now has 33 goals in 37 games, which moves him one ahead of P.E.I. Rocket forward Josh Currie for top spot in QMJHL scoring.

Dillon Fournier, Redgie Bois and Felix Caron also scored for Rouyn-Noranda.

Val-d'Or goaltender Alexandre St-Arnaud turned away 24 shots for his sixth victory of the season while the Huskies' Robin Gusse allowed all eight goals against on 44 shots.

Val-d'Or, which has the fifth-best road power play in the league, went 3 for 7 with the man advantage while Rouyn-Noranda went 2 for 4.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Baie-Comeau 2, Chicoutimi 1; Gatineau 6, Blainville-Boisbriand 5 (SO); Drummondville 3, Shawinigan 2 (OT); Quebec 6, Sherbrooke 5 (SO) and Rimouski 6, Victoriaville 5 (SO).

Sunday's matchups between the P.E.I. Rocket and Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats were both postponed due to poor weather. There is no date set for either make-up game.

At Rouyn-Noranada, Que., Dea scored back-to-back goals while on the power play to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game.

Morin and Poudrier responded for Val'd'Or with goals 44 seconds apart to tie the game at two after 20 minutes of play.

Henley gave the Foreurs their first lead of the night with a power-play goal at 7:17 of the second period, but it didn't last long as Dea replied at 9:43 for Rouyn-Noranda.

Henley added his second power-play goal of the game at 18:26, however Fournier scored for the Huskies only 25 seconds later and the game headed into the third period tied 4-4.

Zlobin opened the third period with a goal for Val-d'Or before Bois and Caron made it 6-5 for Rouyn-Noranda.

Down a goal with less than six minutes to play, the Foreurs scored three straight goals in a span of 2:02 to take a lead that they wouldn't give up.

Henley completed his hat trick with his third power-play goal of the game at 14:39 and Zlobin added two more goals to complete the offence for Val-d'Or.
