OHL Roundup: A look at Friday's games

Malcolm Subban stopped 34 shots as the Belleville Bulls downed the host Kitchener Rangers 3-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

The 19-year-old has won six of his last eight starts, is now 15-7-3 on the season and among the leaders in every statistical category for goaltenders. He currently has a 2.17 goals-against average, which is third best in the OHL, while his .932 save percentage ranks him second.

Garrett Hoouey had a goal and an assist for the Bulls (17-9-4), who sit first in the East Division three points ahead of the Oshawa Generals, while Carter Sandlak and Brendan Gaunce each scored once.

Hoouey, who hadn't picked up a point in five outings, recorded his fourth multi-point performance of the season.

Ben Thomson had the lone goal for the Rangers (18-9-3), who lost for just the third time in regulation on home ice in 15 outings. Thomson has just six goals in 29 games, however he has scored in three straight games.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Erie 6, Ottawa 2; Kingston 4, Brampton 3; London 5, Niagara 2; Saginaw 3, Plymouth 2 (OT); Windsor 3, Sarnia 2 (SO); Guelph 4, Owen Sound 1 and Sudbury 5, Mississauga 3.

At Kitchener, Ont., Franky Palazzese turned away 37 shots in a losing cause for the Rangers.

Despite giving up three goals, the 19-year-old has a 1.96 goals-against average and .938 save percentage, which is good for the OHL lead in both categories.

Neither club had any success on the power play as the Bulls went 0 for 6 while the Rangers failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.

At Erie, Pa., Jimmy McDowell and J.P. Labardo each had a goal and two assists as the Otters (8-17-5) snapped a five-game winless streak by downing Ottawa (7-22-3), which has now dropped eight games straight.

At Kingston, Ont., Mike Morrison stopped 25 shots and Darcy Greenaway scored the winning goal 36 seconds into the third period as the Frontenacs (16-13-1) slipped past Brampton (14-13-5).

At London, Ont., Jake Patterson stopped 36-of-38 shots and Bo Horvat, Tyler Ferry and Ryan Rupert each had a goal and an assist as the Knights (25-5-2) beat Niagara (19-11-2) to extend their winning streak to 17 games.

At Plymouth, Pa., Justin Kea had two goals and Nick Moutrey scored the winner with eight seconds remaining in overtime as Saginaw (13-15-4) defeated the Whalers (14-8-7).

At Sarnia, Ont., Jordan DeKort stopped 38-of-40 shots and Ryan Verbeek scored the winner in the shootout as Windsor (13-12-6) halted the Sting's (17-11-3) five-game winning streak.

At Guelph, Ont., Zack Mitchell and Justin Auger scored 22 seconds apart late in the second period and Garret Sparks made 18 saves as the Storm (19-9-3) ended Owen Sound's (22-6-3) five-game win streak.

At Sudbury, Ont., Nathan Pancel scored twice and set up one more and Joel Vienneau, who replaced started Taylor Dupuis to start the second period, stopped all 18 shots he faced to pick up the win as the Wolves (12-16-4) came from behind to beat Mississauga (17-10-2).
